Children International started working in 1936 under the name Holy Land Christian Mission. It has gone through many changes since then, and in 1989 changed its name to Children International to emphasize its primary focus on helping children in poverty through child sponsorship.

CI currently works in 10 countries. The organization takes great pride in minimizing its overhead - in 2016, 90% of its total expenses went directly to programs and activities to help sponsored kids. The organization provides support to children and youth in a number of ways, from medical care to tutoring to life skills and job preparedness.
